I receive an error that “Plex has stopped working”

Hello,

I’m currently using Plex and have installed a couple of skins using “Plex Skin Manager” for Windows. When using Plex, everything works well and my installed skins function properly but when I exit the program and attempt to restart it I receive an error that “Plex has stopped working” with a single option to close the program.

After manually changing the skin back to its default by using the XML file I can successfully restart Plex. If I change the skin again after entering the program I once again can exit the program but can’t reopen it. I’ve checked the log file and there are only font error messages showing that "helvetica" and "helveticaneue" fonts could not be found and that they were substituted by Arial. 

After these font error messages, the log file shows that the program started and continued on. Could my problem be caused by the font errors?

Has someone had a similar experience?

Hi,

To resolve the issue that you are getting, you will need to try the following:

  • You will need to try enabling the heap corruption diagnostics, but beware that it may cause different dump when running "Plex Media Scanner.exe". The exception may not look like heap corruption, but the stack  will still have a lot of heap-related activity in it so it better just to try.
  • In case you can be able to identify the media causing the issue, you will need to check it and  see if you reproduce the issue. After that you can be able to resolve the issue.
