I hope someone can help me know what I need to do to get Outlook 2010 to move messages in the inbox to other folders.

I have tried to highlight several messages at once and  dragging them to the folder

but I always get an error  "can't move the items" message without elaboration. Any help and suggestions will be very helpful!

Here is a way to solve your problem;

Locate the file Outlook.pst and Archive.pst.

Move it and please don't copy it, move it to the desktop folder.

From the outlook's icon, right click it.

Select properties menu, next is the profiles and remove the one that is the same with it.

Restart the outlook and make up your email account a new one.

Proceed to File, from it's menu the Import and Export; select the import from another file and choose the one with .pst.

Again locate your outlook file from the beginning of the steps and allow the system import the files.

This will help you.

Hello Michelle,

You are receiving that error because outlook 2010 does not support just dragging messages into a new folder.

You can fix it by creating a new message rule

Here’s how to do it.

Click Tools>Message Rules> Mail

From there you can set a folder where the messages will be moved to.
