I’m trying to install MPIO DSM V3.5 from NetApp.

Hi all,

I’m trying to install MPIO DSM V3.5 from NetApp on Windows 2008 R2 SP1, though I  already have old version of this.  I’ve noticed that if I don’t install KB2522766 and KB2528357, an error message appears: see the image I have attached. Does this have to do with my older version of NetApp MPIO DSM?

Error:

The following hotfixes are not available on the system:1.Q2522766-mpio.sys(Required:6.1.7601.17619/Installed:6.1.7601.17514) 2.Q2528357-storport.sys(Required:6.1.7601.21720/Installed:6.1.7601.17577) please install the hotfixes listed and retry the installation.

Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You will get the following “error” after you deploy MPIO DSM V3.5 from NetApp at a fully patched Windows 2008 R2 SP1 system and if you have not installed KB2522766 and KB2528357:

“KB2522766”

The MPIO fails more than all paths improperly when a passing single collapse occurs in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Visit here for support    :   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2522766

“KB2528357”

Nonpaged pool leak when you change some storage controllers in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Click here for support    :   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2528357

After completed installing KB2522766 you have to reboot.

Same as KB2522766 requires a reboot.

After completed requires reboot, you can install MPIO DSM 3.5:

If you have an older version of NetApp MPIO DSM installed, then it will be detected and upgrade automatically. Then you have to install the Hyper-V Guest utilities, which is the new features and mentioned above in the feature list.

Then you have to completed third reboot, and then you can use proceed with SAN configuration.

Hallo Tammy,

There are some third party patches that you will need to deploy before you can proceed with the installation, and you can find them here: http://ramazancan.wordpress.com/2011/11/08/netapp-new-windows-mpio-v3-5-available/

Once you have done a third party reboot, you can go ahead and do the SAN configuration. Some other things that you will need to do are the following:

  • Ensure that there are not compatibility issues with the operating system, for that may be one possible cause of the error that you are getting.
  • Also, I will recommend that you get the most recent version of the application to use for installation.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Carl

The hot fixes have special release for different systems because of the fact that there are different operating systems among different users. So that might be the problem that you are not able to launch the hot fixes for the application on your machine.

1. First check the version of the software installed in your system.
2. Go to the manufactures website and see the hot fixes page or go to the page of the version of the software you have.
3. There you will see a long list of updates and hot fixes available.
4. Choose the right one for your system and download it.
5. After download, install it and restart the system.
6. If there is a newer version available on their site, then you must download that one and remove the previous version from your computer and install the new one as it automatically includes the hot fixes as well.

The error message obviously indicates that you do not have KB2522766 and KB2529357 installed in your machine.

KB2522766 is not installed when MPIO drivers are unable to operate correctly for the entire paths and it is caused by a transitory failure either in Windows Server 2008 or Windows 2008 R2.

While KB2528357, which is a nonpaged pool rupture when some of the storage controllers being disabled and enabled in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Thus, in order to resolve this issue, you need to follow the simple steps below.

1. Firstly, click on OK to proceed the installation process. Next, you will be prompted by this following message:

MPIO drivers are unable to operate correctly

2. Click Yes to install KB2522766 and follow the installation steps. Once it has completed, you will be asked to reboot your machine.

Download and Install Updates complete

Next, please install KB2528357 similar to step 1 and 2 above.

KB2528357, which is a nonpaged pool rupture Download and Install Updates complete

After you have reloaded your computer twice, now you are able to go about installing MPIO DSM 3.5

Able to go about installing MPIO DSM 3.5

I hope this little information will benefit you.
