I’m receiving an error from Norton’s Antivirus 2006

Hi experts.

In last 6/7 days I've been finding these irritating "Program has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"message with a blue 'I' in a ring at the side of it messages shows in all times when I browse sites but I select the "don't send" key it doesn't shut the webpage, also I'm receiving an error from Norton's Antivirus 2006 "Norton AntiVirus 2006 was unable to start the Instant Messenger scanner.

It will be unable to scan Instant Messenger downloads for infections" shows almost as often as the other error. I need to solve it. Please help me and give a solution.

Hello Ashley,

You will need to clean up your computer using the Norton Removal Tool and then the reinstallation. That error could be as result of the changes that have been to Norton.

  • First you will need to backup your Identity Safe data if you use it and then after that you will have your Norton key ready from your Norton account.
  • Next you will download Norton removal Tool from the following site
  • There after you will download NIS2011 from the following site:http://in.norton.com/ Note : 100 MB
  • The next step will be to remove NIS 2011, NIS 2006 as well as the Live update by going to Add/Remove Programs.
  • After that you will need to run the Norton Removal Tool TWICE and the restart in between.
  • Install NIS2011, and then run the Live update from the NIS 2011 main panel till all the updates finish.
