Hi there,

I just saved an Outlook PST file on a portable USB drive? When I open the PST file, I'm having an error of "unknown file". Am I doing something wrong while saving PST Outlook portable USB? I use Microsoft Outlook 2010.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Elias. First for your information, you can't just save your PST file directly to your portable USB. If you want to transfer file to USB drive, first you need to copy the PST file from your outlook folder (Documents and Settings<user>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook folder) then paste it to your portable USB drive. If you want to open it, launch the outlook to your computer. Click the file menu and choose "import" then find your PST file in your portable USB drive then finally click the Next button and then your done. If it still persist I advise you to format your portable USB and try it again. I hope this helps.

If you are opening a USB with a saved PST file and gets an error message, properly you saved the pst file from the infected computer , because some virus protect the files and can’t be saved properly on USB devices or the other reason could be the USB device you are using could be faulty. So solutions differ depending on the nature of the occurrence. Scan virus both the computer and the USB device. Try to scan the usb device for the bad sectors
