What is the cheapest most basic Microsoft software you should buy if you just want the Microsoft Word feature for your Apple Mac laptop computer? and Is there a way to password protect a document in Microsoft Word so nobody can read it without the password?.

Thank you.

Hi,

OpenOffice.org is a free and open-source office suite. It has an excellent text editor called Writer (it has a layout similar to Microsoft Word 2003), and it is absolutely free please downloading from the given link:

http://www.openoffice.org/

It can read and write in .doc and .docx file formats, and Open Office Writer it is an excellent (and free) Microsoft Word alternative. Yes there is password protection in security options of Save File tab.

Thanks for contacting us.

Hi,

If you just want to write something then I suggest you to use TextEdit. However, if you want any more functionality then you should use Open Office made by Apple. It is completely free and you can download it at http://www.openoffice.org/.  Its layout more similar to MS word 2003 and it can read and write in .doc and .docx file formats. Again you can protect your document with password so that others need permission to open your documents in the MS Word.  For doing this you need to the following-

1. Right click on your document file and then click the properties option.

2. Now by clicking on the security tab you can protect your document putting special permission to others.

Thank you!
