Hey Jai,

Follow the steps and you should get rid of this problem you're having-

1. Go to this link – https://wiki.gnome.org/action/show/Projects/NetworkManager/MobileBroadband/ServiceProviders?action=show&redirect=NetworkManager%2FMobileBroadband%2FServiceProviders and then downloaded the list of service providers and do the old autoconf-i/configure/make/install routine on them.

2. This copies two files:
/usr/local/share/mobile-broadband-provider-info/serviceproviders.dtd
/usr/local/share/mobile-broadband-provider-info/serviceproviders.xml

3. If the problem persists, then configure it manually.

<provider>

    <name>3</name>

    <gsm>

        <apn>three.co.uk</apn>

    </gsm>

</provider>

If you have a Huawei E353 modem and it is detected incorrectly as E398, try plugging the USB stick to another USB port to troubleshoot. There are four (4) USB ports on the computer by default so try using them to troubleshoot the problem. Normally, when using USB modems like this, it automatically installs the modem’s software or dashboard for connecting to the internet.

Try to uninstall and reinstall that software. Download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it. Once installed, start Revo then select the Huawei software among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click to restart later. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan the computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds.

This removes everything the program created on your computer. When it is finished, close Revo then restart the computer. After booting, plug the Huawei USB stick to install the driver and software back. If this doesn’t work, you need to update the stick’s firmware. Go to Huawei E353 Firmware Update to download the firmware update. Carefully follow the instructions to update the stick.
