I can’t Make My HP Pavilion G7-1070 Standby or Hibernate

Hi, all of you HP Pavilion users I need your kind attention to solve my problem.

I can’t turn my pc into standby or hibernate mode. Previously it was completely ok and last time I used these options about five days ago.

I am not sure exactly when the options vanished, but I have seen it this morning. There is no power option under control panel, and taskbar icon is also missing. I have installed some Windows update about three days ago, and I am using windows 7.

I thought this is a problem of graphics card but NVIDIA graphics driver is working pretty well.

Please give me a solution to troubleshoot this problem.

Hey

If you can't find Hibernate and Standby on your computer,

There is a way you can try to fix this issue by using the Command Prompt of your system.

To do this,

Follow this instruction:

  1. Go to Start, on the search bar type run and click the Run on the search result.
  2. On Run, type cmd to open the Command Prompt.
  3. In the Command Prompt type powercfg /hibernate on to turn on hibernate, in case it has been turned off.
  4. To find sleep, you can try to right click the Start button then go to properties and change the Power button action to Sleep.

In Microsoft Windows, the “Power Options” applet in the Control Panel can be enabled and disabled using the Group Policy Editor. This means an administrator can configure it to be shown or hidden in the Control Panel so no user can modify the settings.

If you don’t see it in the Control Panel, you can always run it in the command prompt with the command without quotes “powercfg.cpl” or simply “powercfg”. With the “powercfg.cpl” applet, you can enable or disable the hibernate feature in Microsoft Windows. To do this, you need to be using an administrator account.

To try this, press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “cmd” then hit Enter to launch an elevated command prompt. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “powercfg.cpl -hibernate” or “powercfg -h” then hit Enter. This enables or disables the hibernate feature in Microsoft Windows.

Here’s the list of Control Panel applets that you can run in the command prompt in case an applet suddenly disappears in the Control Panel window:

  • Access.cpl – Accessibility
  • Appwiz.cpl – Add or Remove Program
  • Desk.cpl – Display
  • Hdwwiz.cpl – Add Hardware
  • Inetcpl.cpl – Internet Options
  • Intl.cpl – Regional and Language Options
  • Joy.cpl – Game Controllers
  • Keymgr.cpl – Stored User Names and Passwords
  • Liccpa.cpl – Licensing
  • Main.cpl – Mouse
  • Mmsys.cpl – Sound and Audio Devices
  • Ncpa.cpl – Network Connections
  • Nwc.cpl – Netware client connectivity
  • Odbccp32.cpl – ODBC Data Source Administrator
  • Powercfg.cpl – Power Options
  • Sysdm.cpl – System
  • Telephon.cpl – Phone and Modem Options
  • Timedate. Cpl – Date and Time
  • Sapi.cpl – Speech
