Hello Everyone,

Recently I've purchased an Apple MacBook Air 2.8. I've lots of content in my iTunes. From a few days, I'm thinking to restore Windows in my Mac afresh. If I restore Windows newly, my all-existing content will be deleted. That is why I want to backup my all iTunes content. I don't know the proper procedure to backup and also I'm a sound engineer. I have lot's of musical content in iTunes. I just don't want to lose it. Please someone help me to backup my all contents. Thanks.

Dear Zakira,

Before giving you a solution, I need to know whether you will completely use Windows in your Mac or you will use both Mac and Windows. Cheers!

I just want to use Windows in my Mac.  Because, there are some software for sound compostion and editing, which Mac OS doesn't support. Thanks.

Thanks Zakira. For your information I wanted to know because if you plan to use both OS, then you don't need to backup your contents. Now as you decided that you want to use only Windows, then please follow the steps:

First- Choose File; then go to Library , after that you will see a dialog box mentioning Backup entire iTunes library and playlists.  You can also select two options. Backup entire iTunes library and playlists. Backup only iTunes Store purchases.

Second- Insert a blank disc CD/DVD into your optical drive. After inserting the Disc iTunes will scan your disc. Don’t eject you disc while it's backing up.

Here is your backup started. Cheers.

Dear Bappy,

As per your instructions I can backup my contents successfully in DVD but I can't play any of my audio contents from the Disc. I think the contents are not properly backed up. Thanks.

You can't play any audio or video from your CD/DVD. The Disk, which you created using the iTunes backup feature can be used only to restore.

Hello Zakira,

Connect the two computers together and drag and drop the iTunes files from one computer to another. To make sure you don’t erase a library with another rather combine them, follow the instructions from the External Hard Drive option. Home sharing is available in iTunes 9.0 and above that allows transferring iTunes items to any computer on the network. This is limited to 5 computers and requires them to sign in to iTunes using the same account.

To back up the libraries, turn on Home Sharing and drag and drop the items to the desired computer you want to back the files up in. The computers on the network are in the left-hand column in iTunes. Please note that this method, called Home Sharing, does not transfer play counts or ratings for music files.

Regards,

Sumya.
