Dear Akash,

Could you please let me know which firmware you are using in your iPhone. You must have latest version in your iPhone otherwise it will be not easy to use your iPhone as a modem.

Regards,

Bappy

Dear Akash,

To use iPhone as a modem, first run the Helper app and select Connect. This sets up an ad-hoc wireless network which can be accessed via the iPhone. The default network is created and is called iPhone Modem.

This network doesn’t have a password. Now go to Settings > Wi-Fi, turn it on and select the iPhone Modem.

Type in the password.

Open the iPhone Modem application and everything will be configured automatically.

You’ll get a confirmation message once the connection has been established.

If you have a Wi-Fi-enabled Smartphone, you don’t need to turn it into a modem if you simply want to share the internet connection on your phone with your laptop. Since both your iPhone and laptop support Wi-Fi connection, the best way to share the internet connection on your phone with your laptop is to create a Wi-Fi hotspot with your iPhone turning it into a Wi-Fi router.

In this setup, the phone is connected to the internet via 3G/4G cellular data connection then broadcasts this via Wi-Fi connection which your laptop can receive and connect. To begin, on your iPhone, go to “Settings” then “Mobile Data” or “Mobile”. On the next screen, tap “Personal Hotspot” then turn on “Personal Hotspot” by tapping the slide.

If Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned off, tap to turn them on when you are prompted. Next, tap “Wi-Fi Password” then enter a suitable password for the Wi-Fi hotspot you’ll be creating. Next, under “To Connect Using Wi-Fi”, check the name of the hotspot.

After this, on your laptop, click the Wi-Fi icon on the Menu bar or go to “Settings” then tap “Wi-Fi on an iPad” and select the Wi-Fi hotspot like for example, “Pete’s iPhone”. Enter the password you created earlier for the hotspot and that’s it. You should now be able to browse the internet on your MacBook Pro or any Wi-Fi-capable device using the connection provided by your iPhone.
