Hi guys,

I face a problem in my Windows XP. I can not  reset my internet protocol in Windows XP pack 2. I use Wimax internet modem. Few days ago I reset it in the same windows. But now it is not reset.  But I need to reset my IP.

How  can I reset my IP?

Hi John Anderson,

Here are the steps to reset Internet Protocol using Windows XP Service Pack 2:

  • Go to Start>Run>Type CMD and then press Enter.
  • You will have a command prompt window and a blinking cursor.
  •  Type netsh int ip reset c:resetlog.txt then press Enter .
  •  Then restart your computer.

Another Example is:

  •  Go to Start>Run>Type CMD and then press Enter.
  •  A command prompt will appear, type this in the blinking cursor netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt then press Enter.
  •  Restart your computer .

After This will reset your Internet Protocol of your computer and it will usually makes your computer's Internet connection run faster.

There two things to consider in changing or resetting your IP address. You have to identify first if your IP is Static or Dynamic. Static IP are assigned IP while Dynamic IP was obtained from the DHCP server. Better to contact your internet service provided regarding this issue.

If your IP is Static, ask them to change your IP. I just don’t really sure if ISPs allowed their client to change IP. If your IP is dynamic, most of the ISP saves your MAC address and they automatically assigned or reserve a particular IP for that MAC address as you log on their server. IP configuration tool doesn’t help this unless you have the full control to their server.

To locate where to configure your IP address just  copy this link or go to (start, write click my network places, click properties, write click local area connection, properties, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), properties, then the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)  properties window will appear , then its time to make your IP address or change your IP address,
