I am having problems using my DVD player to play videos

Hey guys,

I am having problems using my DVD player to play videos. I used to play DVDs with it but now using Win DVD, Real Player and Total player I can play any DVD CDs. I can use it for other data DVDs except the ones that have videos.

Another thing I think might help is that this started immediately when I was not able to play QuickTime files unless I used Google's Picasa.

Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

I have put an image of the screen when this happens below this. I need help and I will appreciate all your efforts in helping me.

Thank you very much

Hello,

Such problem may cause due to either hardware or software problem. Lets go through few steps & see if it gives a solution.

1) From the screenshot, it's clear that you're using Windows XP & Windows XP lacks proper codecs. In case you need to play all types of media, you need to use extra codec pack in XP. You'll find many codec pack available online. Try any. I recommend K-Lite Media Codec Pack.

2) Make sure that your disk is readable, can you access the DVD Drive from Explore ? if Yes, then probably the issue is with your software, if not, you've got a hardware damage.

3) Installing media pack, you're supposed to play any type of media including DVD, 3gp or even those MOV (QuickTime) files.

4) If you've reinstalled your Operating system lately, make sure that you've installed the graphics driver.  Sometimes it also causes choppy videos or videos may not even run.

5) If you've solved all the issues above, make sure that your color setting is set to 32bit & the minimum required resolution. For a 4:3 ratio (square) display, it's supposed to be 1024×768, For a widescreen display, it can be 1366×768.

Let me know, if that solves your problem, else we may look into more deep.

Hi brian,

I didn't understand why you are using windows media player as your DVD player. Stop using it. It doesn't support the DVD extension. Please try KM player or VLC to play your DVD. If you don't have this, collect from here. VLC download link:

Km player download link https://filehippo.com/download_kmplayer/.

Thanks.
