First, launch the InqScribe.

Select the media source you'd be working on. To do this, click the "Select Media Source" button. This can be a media file, a URL, a timer or a physical videotape. And then click on "Select file" and choose the file you want to transcribe from your computer and click "Open". Ignore the Time Code and Description. Just click the "OK" button and InqScribe will automatically load your media file.

Now, use the remote to control the movie. You can use the mouse to jump from one point to another in the movie thought the interactive timeline. There is also a play rate slider. You can change the speed up or down and is useful if you need to slow down the playback so you can better understand what's being said.

Then, you have to insert the time codes. This one is easy. Select "Edit" and click in "Insert time" or simply press "control-;" on your keyboard.

You can also have the names of the interviewer and subject mapped to shortcuts or what we call "snippets". There is a floating Snippets window which shows all your currently available snippets. You can select the snippet you want and click on the "Insert" button or just double-click the snippet. You can also assign a shortcut key for it.
