But I notice that his device has the latest updates and it comes with several new features. I want to know if there's a way that I can update mine. How to upgrade the android on Galaxy s5
New updates are normally sent to you your phone – this method is called over-the-air. If you have received a notification that there is an update available for your phone, follow the steps below to install it.

Open the Notification bar and click on the New Android OS update notification

Make sure you are on wi-fi connection before starting the download. Data charges apply when updating

Confirm the download and installation

Your mobile will reboot and install the new firmware when the installation completes
If you didn’t received an over-the-air notification, you can manually check if there are updates available. Follow the steps below:

Tap on Settings>More>About Device

Tap on Software Update

Tap on the Check Now button to see if there are any updates available

If there is an update available, click Download and wait for the download to complete

Phone will reboot after update has completed
You can also check for and update your phone via Kies Software

Download Samsung Kies app for your computer here

Install the program

Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Wait until all the drivers have been installed and the phone is recognized by your computer

If any new updates are available for download, a pop-up window will open up via Samsung Kies

Click on Update and wait until all the new files are copied onto your phone

Do not use your phone while the new OS is being installed

After the download has completed, confirm the update by pressing the Start Upgrade button

Once the phone has finished updating, reboot your phone
