Hi gamers,

I was recently playing “The Shooters” on PS3 and suddenly got a play station 3 error code-80010514 error message on the screen “An error occurred during the start operation (80010514).

I tried every possible solution I could but nothing worked for my system. Even tried contacting Sony for the same but they are also not able to solve it and asking for 150$ for it (still not sure if it would get fixed). Please help!!

You need to relax first!! This error is most probably a case of faulty installation of the particular gaming software that you have installed or a sector of the disk is damaged and can no longer be read by the system. This error will take maximum 3-4 minutes to get solved only if your system is currently “exploding”.

Here are a few solves:

Go to the “System Recovery Mode” and from there either chose “Rebuild PS3 Database” or “Restore PS3 File System”. It will take a few minutes and the system would be back to normal. Be careful- Choosing “Restore PS3” would wipe your data and you definitely wouldn’t want that to happen.

Replace the Blue-Ray Drive of your system if the above option does not work.

Finally, the reason why Sony is not able to fix this problem is that this is a bug of the latest update of the firmware by Sony but this updated version is needed by every latest version of games and thus you cannot go back to the previous version once you have updated your system. So you have to contact Sony if any of the above solutions is of no use.

In Sony PlayStation 3, error code “80010514” means “The PS3 system was unable to read the current disc.” This means there is a problem with your game disc. If you receive this error when playing a game, eject the disc and clean the surface of the disc with a soft clean cloth. After this, insert the disc back and try again.

Sony PlayStation 3

If this doesn’t work, try loading a different disc and see what happens. In case the second disc loads successfully, your first disc is probably damaged that’s why it cannot load. You probably need to replace it.

On the other hand, if the second disc or any other disc you try doesn’t load, you probably need to bring your PlayStation 3 to the nearest Sony repair shop to service it.
