Hi everybody,

Please guys help me I'm really disappointed because of this problem.

I bought a new laptop its from Lenovo manufacturer and what I can see is the mouse pointer cannot move from the day I bought it as I was not allowed to use the laptop at the shop itself but when I came to home and checked it the mouse pointer doesn't move and hangs every now and then for at least 10 seconds. Please tell me how to solve this.

Hello,

You need to provide more details about the problem, including your laptop model and system configuration. Are you able to use external mouse?  For instance I am assuming that you have laptop with latest window 8 installed. Here are some tests and their respective Workarounds you may try for now:

  • Verify whether an external mouse is connected properly to the USB PORT and if yes then working properly. Remember a USB port and an OS having USB support is needed to link a USB interface external mouse to a ThinkPad system.
  • If external mouse is working fine then now turn is to verify the internal TrackPoint or “UltraNav” is enabled in BIOS and in Windows.

    • BIOS setting:

      • Power on your ThinkPad
      • Press F1 to enter System Setup
      • Select <<Config<< Keyboard/Mouse
      • Check for “TrackPoint” and “TouchPad” are both set to “Enabled”
      • Press F10 to save and exit, press “Enter” to select “Yes” to save the new configuration changes. Exit
    • Windows Instructions:

      • Go to<< Start<< Control Panel<< Hardware and Sound<<Mouse under Devices and Printers<<”UltraNav” tab.
      • Check that both TrachPoint and TouchPad are enabled by placing a checkmark in the enable box.
  • Update Windows and Lenovo for the latest patches available.
  • Try updating BIOS as well.
  • Reinstall UltraNav driver with the latest version: Go to synaptic website and try to install latest available version of drivers.

I hope this information may solve your problem.

Firstly, insert USB mouse and check whether it`s working or not. If it is not working then it must be driver problem. So, just reinstall PS/2 driver. But if it is not working, then do the following things

1. Check for the latest mouse pad driver and install it.

2.  The second thing that someone has accidently press a combination of fn key + f1-f12 keys. So, try to repeat this sequence most probably its fn key+ f7 or f9.

3. If nothing works then your mouse pad ribbon is disconnected with the mother board.
