We have Hp laserjet 4250 printer in our office. Currently it is connected to the computer of my office mate and set as shared printer so we can connect and print. But we encounter many problems like entering the authentication security of the host pc, block by the firewall, printer offline and big problem if the user of host printer is absent. Is there a way to make our printer a network printer so we can connect to it more easily?

Dear,

Here you did not write the printer model. is it Hp Laser jet 4250 N or D or T or SL. only N model is network printer and you can connect with the RJ-45 connector with your network switch. But other model are not support this. So now at first see your printer. If it is 4250 N, then please connect this printer with a network cable and insert installer CD with any computer. Remember that this computer must be connected with this network.

Remember that printer power must be off. Now insert the installer CD in the CD/DVD ROM. CD will start automatically. Now follow the instruction which you see in the monitor. at last one option will come that choose your printer connection type. There are two options. One is direct cable and another is network wire connection.

Now please select network wire and power on your printer. The computer automatically find the printer and install in this computer. Same procedure you have to follow for all your network computer. One by one.

Cheers

To allow you to use a printer with multiple computers, the printer needs to be shared properly. Before you can share one printer with two or more computers, both or all computers must be on the same network and the printer is shared to both or all computers.

If you have a Wi-Fi network at home, the easiest way to share the printer is to connect both computers to the Wi-Fi network. Before sharing the printer, make sure the printer is installed properly on the computer where it is directly connected to and you can use it without any problems. You can download the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.

Before you can use a device like a printer across the network, the device must be shared properly. To share your printer properly across the network, on the computer where the printer is directly connected to, click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Printers and Other Hardware” then “Printers and Faxes”. Here, right-click your printer then select “Sharing”.

In the printer’s “Properties” window, in “Sharing” tab, make sure “Share this printer” is selected then enter your device’s shared name in the “Share name” text field. For example, without quotes “Shared Printer” then click “OK”. After this, you need to add the shared printer to the rest of the computers on the network.

To do this, on every computer, click “Start”, “Control Panel”, “Printers and Other Hardware” then “Printers and Faxes”. Next, click “Add a printer” then click “Next”. In “Add Printer Wizard” dialog, select “A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer” then click “Next”. Windows will then search the network for possible shared devices and display the results on the screen.

Select the shared device you created earlier called “Shared Printer” then click “Next”. And that’s it. The shared printer should now appear on the computer. This should now allow you to use the network printer to print documents from any computer connected to the network.
