I'm planning to get an Xperia Play phone with 1 GHz Scorpion CPU, Adreno 205 GPU and Android OS, v2.3.4 (Gingerbread).  Is the gameplay of the Sony Ericsson playstation phone the same as the original PSP?  Can it handle HD games?  Looking for some feedback.  Thanks.

Hello Buckmaster,

Sony Erricsson Xperia Play is the first smartphone cum game playing gadget in the world. It created a lot of revelations during its release but unfortunately it failed to pull the focus of the playstation fans. The specifications of the mobile are enough to play 3D games on the device but a lot of complaints have come regarding the weird joystick and also the resolution of the screen does not give the appropriate PSP experience. Added to it such heavy games easily drain out the battery and you end up neither using the phone much nor playing games on it for a long time.

Although the processor in it can handle any game there are instances where the gameplay slows down. It is not because of the processor but because of the background apps and the syncing of the phone which use the CPU resources. Hence though the processor may seem good but not all of it is being used by the gaming console. I hope this should have cleared your doubts regarding PSP phone being as equivalent as the playstation device. If it did not then my one word answer is "NO".

Dear user,

Sony Ericson Xperia play can handle HD games, in fact, it can handle them at 60 frames per second. It is loaded with legendary play station games. It has a play station suite and the Sony Ericson company will soon launch a play station company.  These 3D games are in Sony Ericson phones via unity technologies.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you.
