How to print emails using Outlook 2003 Windows Server 2008

Hi,

Since Internet Explorer 9 was installed on our server most users can’t print emails from Microsoft Outlook 2003. We are using Windows Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Services. Users can print from Internet Explorer 9 and using our XPS printer. Printing to our other printer produces the error “error: the system cannot find the file specified; code: 0; URL:  reg://ieframe.dll/preview.js”.

At the moment users are using Microsoft Word as an email editor to print emails. I have researched the Internet for a solution but am yet to find one that works. Solutions I have tried include installing regsvr32 xxxxxx.dll, creating a new profile and restoring Internet Explorer settings.

Can you please help me find a solution that lets users print emails using Microsoft Outlook 2003?

Hello Kent,

To resolve the issue, you will need to use the following procedure:

  • First, you will need to download Process Monitor.
  • And after that you will start Outlook 2003 and then open an HTML format email.
  • After that you will need to start Process Monitor because you will need to log all I/O events.
  • You will need to click the Print button on the Outlook toolbar and the get the error up.
  • You should not clear the error message by clicking OK, for that will end up generating more activity.
  • After that switch to Process Monitor and then stop it recording, and after that filter on Process Name = OUTLOOK.EXE.
  • Make sure that you filter out all but file I/O events in order to reduce the list, and then use a highlight rule for Result = NAME NOT FOUND.
  • Navigate to the bottom of the list to have a clue what Outlook is doing.

You might see a script error that will help in resolving the issue there.

Regards,

Carl

Hello Kent woods,

I would suggest you that firstly you should Repair your Internet Explorer 9

If the problem is not gone then you have to reset Internet explorer settings

It’s a common matter that most of the people can’t print email from outlook 2003

For this problem I can suggest to disable Add-ins in outlook t2003:

Go to Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > COM add- ins.

If it still persists, I suggest the following steps:

Outlook > Tools > Options > Preferences > Email Options > Clear Check In Read All Standard Mail in Plain Test > OK.

Mail Format > Check Use MS Office Word 2003 to Read Rich Text Email Messages > Ok.

To solve the problem on Windows Server 2008 with terminal services and outlook 2003:

In the registry go

HKEY_CURRENT_USERsoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0OutlookPrinting

Then create a DWORD and name it “Force RTF Printing” and give it the value 1 (hex)

I think after the following treatment you'll get the solution

Good Luck.
