Here’s how you format without re-installing your windows XP CD.

  • First thing you will do is to transfer your file into safe place, either on a CD or a hard drive that you won’t need to format or partition.
  • Right click the my computer icon in your desktop, then point you mouse cursor to manage, then a computer management comes up. Just select storage and click then Disk Management local in the right side then double click.
  • Lower part in the main frame which in the right side of your window, you will see a visual of all the drives in your computer with a colored bar at the top of it the size displayed in GB and MB
  • Now delete the existing partition on the drive by clicking the partition box and select delete, before you do this make sure you have already back-up the drive. Once done a black bar at the top will appear and it says “unallocated”. Then right click and select new partition, then a partition wizard will come up.
  • In the partition wizard click next, when in you’re the next page select Primary partition, then make an equal size to maximum, on the next page your computer will choose automatically just choose available drive letter. Then that’s it, a new partition is created and you will need to format it and choose NTFS. Just wait when the format is done.

You don’t need to setup Windows again or reinstall Windows XP just to partition your hard drive. The easiest way to increase the size of your drive is to resize or merge it with an adjacent partition. You can do it easily with EaseUS. Download EaseUS Partition Master Home and install. Once installed, start EaseUS then check which adjacent drive has a bigger space left.

Now, merge the two drives or partitions. Click “Merge partition” on the left pane. In “Merge partition” dialog, check the two (2) drives or partitions you want to merge. Note: these partitions must be adjacent to one another. When you are finished, click “OK” then “Apply”. Another way to increase the size is to resize the partition.

But you can only do this if there is an available unformatted space or raw space next to the partition.
