How to open .dc file extensions in MS works?

I have a new PC that came with a preinstalled Microsoft Works program.

I have saved documents in both .doc and .docx format, but the Microsoft Works would only open the .docx.

Does anybody have idea of a plug-in for MS Works or a way to convert the .doc files to .docx?

Hello there! You can open .doc files in MS Works if you installed the Office Compatibility Pack in your computer. After installing this, open your MS Works and go to File > Open and select the .doc file you would like to open. If this does not work, there are .doc file to .docx converter that you can find in the internet. But if you have MS Word 2010, there is a feature in there where you can convert .doc files to .docx. In the MS Word 2010, open the .doc file and go to File > Info. Under the Compatibility Mode, click Convert and then OK. Save it and done!

Hi James. You don't necessarily need to install anything on your computer to convert this file type. There are free online converters such as zamzar.com.

Zamzar allows you to convert .doc files to .docx for free. Just go to the site, "Choose" the file you wish to convert, choose .docx, enter your email address so you get the download link and click "Convert" This should now work on your MSWorks program.

Just make sure you download the file within 24 hours otherwise your download link expires. Cheers!
