How to move OST file using MS outlook?

I have been using Windows XP Pro SP2 and Microsoft Outlook 2003.

I just had MSN Outlook Connector installed and I intend to move the OST file that was created in "%USERPROFILE%LocalSettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook" but e-mail account does not have advanced settings like other MAPI accounts.

I already tried to move it and then reopened it through MS Outlook but the prompt message says it could not file the OST file and offers me to browse in another location.

I hope you can teach me how I could move an OST file properly. Thank you.

How to move OST file using MS outlook?

Hallo Joel Maratha,

Moving an ost file to another location may be a little harder as compared to the pst file. Just use the procedure below for moving the ost file:

  • First, you will need to close outlook and then you will copy the ost file to the destination.
  • Now that you are using windows xp, you will have to copy it to the location below:

C:Documents and Settings%username%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook

  • You will then need to use mail applet control panel for opening the email account settings and then in the window that will open you will double click on 'exchange server account', and thereafter select more settings.
  • Look for the advanced tab and click on it, and then locate the option labeled 'use cache exchange mode' and disable it, and the save the settings.
  • Thereafter, you will need to disable offline use under offline folders file settings, and then locate the new location of the ost file and then press OK.
  • You will then enable 'use cache exchange mode', and then close all windows and then rename the old ost file in the old location with another name, and the restart outlook.

That is it; you will have moved the ost file to a new location.
