How many gig of RAM does Windows 7 need?

Is it true that the Windows 7 operating system requires at least 2GB of RAM? I used to have Windows XP on my desktop but I had to have it reformatted because of a virus issue. When I told the technician that I wanted to put Windows 7 on my computer, he told me that I can't have it because I only have one GB of RAM on my computer.

Hi! Carlo.

If you want to install Windows 7 32-bit (x86) on your PC with 1gig of RAM and at least your processor is 1 gigahertz (GHz) of speed, then it is ok to install Windows 7 on your desktop but it may require to have a higher video card because of its aero features or you can speed up your system by disabling some of the features.

You can also try to install its Starter Edition. This edition has fewer features so your PC can handle things up. Windows 7 is the best OS of Microsoft. Unlike XP, it is immune in many viruses. Also try to use some simple design Antivirus but still powerful like Symantec endpoint security.

Hope this helps. Good luck

Yes it is true that you need 2 GB of RAM if your want to have windows 7 in your computer. But this is for the recommended requirement. The minimum requirement is actually 1 GB of RAM for the installation of windows 7. So even though you only have 1 GB of RAM it is possible to have windows 7 installed.

Still, I suggest that you upgrade you memory up to two GB of RAM so that you have more flexibility in your memory while running software that requires big amount of memory. If you have virus issue in your operating system, I suggest you just download Microsoft Security Essentials for you to avoid virus related error on your windows.
