How to insert footnotes in a large document

Hi,

I am working on a word document and footnotes are not showing in some documents while in some they are showing. The footnotes are showing up to number 12 and I have to add over 23 of them since my document is large. When I press ctrl + click in the footnote marker, it just goes to the bottom of the document so that I can type the footnote but after typing it cannot be seen. Please assist on this. Thank you.

Hello Alexis,

If the footnote that you are inserting is so large and therefore needs to occupy a lot of space at the bottom of the page, then you will need to increase the size of the page margins especially the bottom margins.

The footnotes are not visible certainly because they are running out of the default page margins since they are large and therefore you will need to increase the size of the margins.

Just click on page layout then margins in the word or excel menu to increase them.

Footnotes are located just below the page. It is impossible or if it is not it is rare to see a footnote comes more than 20 footnotes in just one page. I have tried to fill a page with one inch top margin and one inch bottom margin with Times New Roman Font and 12 font sizes; I’ve got only 50 lines. By the way it is not my business.

We have three solutions for this, first is to increase the size of your footer, make it 4 inches if possible. You may also move some other paragraph or lines on the next page which contains footnotes. This is just to reduce the number of footnotes to be entered; and lastly, change the font size of your footnotes.
