Hi

I would like my Ubuntu desktop to imitate the Windows 7 desktop.

I have setup the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop and rocket dock at the top for executing the program.

But, I still have the Menu bar at the top and do not know how to remove it.

Can anyone please help me to get rid of it?

To make Ubuntu look like windows, you will need to follow the steps below:

  • You will download files that are required to customize Ubuntu.
  • And then you will open Appearance and install the LinuxXP.tar.gz, after which you will need to apply the theme and select that choice.
  • Next you will remove the menu bar  and then add the main menu item to your panel.
  • You will then need to move startubuntu.png to /home/USERNAME/Pictures, and then open your terminal and type the following command: gconf-editor. Executing it will open a "Configuration Editor" window  and you will need to go down the list and do the following: apps > panel > objects > object_0
  • Go to the right pane and check the box for Use_Custom_Icon.
  • In the value box type the following: /home/USERNAME/Pictures/startubuntu.png
