Hi Hollis Riley I searched a solution that may help you solve your problem. Tethering works fine in Ubuntu,Linux,Windows Vista, windows 7 OS without modifications. But it’s a different story in windows XP for it has drivers that need in USB tethering.

Install this configuration file:

https://www.android.com/drivers/tetherxp.inf

  • Save it in an easy to find place.
  • When finish saving connect your android with the DATA cable that is with the phone when given to you and connect to the Computer.
  • At your phone go into Settings > Wireless and Network>Tethering and portable hotspot.
  • On Tethering, check USB tethering.
  • After that you will be prompt by a dialog box on your computer saying “new hardware” select “No, not at this time” then hit next.
  • Then click (Install from list or specific Location) then hit next.
  • Hit Browse and click the configuration file you save then click next.
  • When finish downloading just click Finish.
