Most of the garden design tools are paid software and also very costly. But there are a few freeware available for download. Check these out :
BBC Virtual Garden : A very good garden designer and planner with ready made planting schemes and ideas.
SketchUp : It is a freeware version of the SketchUp Pro software. But still it is a very good tool for garden design.
