I’m not sure which model Toshiba you are using, or what version of Windows, but here are some things you can try:

  1. Remove battery
  • Unplug the Power cord and remove the battery
  • Hold down the power button for 60 minutes (while the battery is still out)
  • Connect the Power Supply and try switch the laptop on
  • Put the battery back into the laptop
  • Restart your laptop
  1. Connect your laptop to an external monitor
  • Look for the VGA connector (it’s the one with the monitor symbol) on your laptop
  • Connect the VGA cable to an external screen
  • Switch on your laptop
  • To toggle between the display on the laptop screen and the external screen, hold down the combination keys (e.g. Fn&F5 or the function key and the one that has a monitor symbol on it).  If the display turns on on the external screen, you may have a problem with the inverter.
  1. Re-install / Fix your version of Windows
  1. Re-install laptop to the factory settings.  WARNING: this will delete all the data on your hard drive.  Laptops newer than from 2007 don’t need a recovery disc to re-install the laptops to the factory settings.  There is a hidden partition on the hard drive that does contain the exact same files as that on the recovery disc.  NOTE: Make sure that you have the power cord plugged in at all times.  Do not restart or power off the laptop during this process
  • Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to make sure your laptop is switched off
  • Press and hold the zero button and at the same time, press the power button once to switch on your laptop
  • The laptop will start beeping – when this happens release the zero button
  • A warning screen asking if you would like to continue with the system recovery, select Yes
  • Select Recover Factory Default Software / Settings and click Next
  • Select Recover to out of the box State and click next
  • Click Next to start the Recovery process
