To fix corrupted files in Windows XP, run the Chkdsk command using the Command Prompt utility. The command scans all the files on the operating system, locates the corrupted ones and repairs them. How to go about it:

  • Click "Start" then select "Run".
  • Type "CMD" in the "Open" box and press the "Enter" key. The Command Prompt window opens.
  • Type "chkdsk volume:/r" at the command prompt and press "Enter". TheChkdsk utility automatically scans the XP operating system for corrupted files and repairs them.
  • Press the "Y" key, then press "Enter" if prompted by the system, to schedule the Chkdsk utility. This warning appears only if the disk is in use when you want to run the utility.
  • Restart the computer. Chkdsk automatically starts and repairs the corrupted files.

Windows XP provides a best check disk utility to repair all types of files.

You should check the files location first then go to dos and write this command in that location.
