There are various types of chart in Microsoft office Excel 2007. To experience your problem I have taken a Bar2D chart. A blank chart appears. Now you need to do a right click on chart and click on ‘select data’. A window appears. First you can set the data range of your choice then add series of your choice by click on button ‘ADD’ on the same window in the section ‘Legend Entries’. After click on ‘ADD’ another window appears with extra features. By this window you can able to edit the series and create a chart.

Hope this will help you.

Assume we have a chart like this on Incentives of few employees

Select an area somewhere on the graph and right click.. You will get options as shown below…Highlight “ Select Data” and click

You will be taken to source data as shown below

In the legend entries, you can either edit the existing entry or create a new one. When you press edit, you will be prompted to enter a text or the reference of a cell which contains the text. In the example below, instead of “Incentives”, I have selected the content of $D$13 to be displayed

The outcome of this selection would be

Similiarly you can change the texts for the employee name too

Hope this helps
