What protection do I get if a content (be it text, image, idea etc) in my website has copyright? What I do is just I put the circled letter c in the footer of my website. Is that how you do it? If not, then how?

Copyrighting your website would be appropriate for legal advantages. You have to register your website for this to protect the content you have on it. You register at the United Sates Copyright Office, with a completed application form, non-refundable filing fee and non-returnable deposit fee as requirements, in any of these three ways:

·         Online, (eCO, electronic Copyright Office), which is the easiest.

·         Fill-in form CO which you fill and print out and send together with the registration requirements.

·         Paper forms which you order and will be mailed via post.

Once you have registered and got copyright, you might license it at the Creative Commons organization. This will license you to give out or not, rights for others to use your content.
