Proxy server, in computer technology is a server that acts as an intermediary for the request that comes in from clients asking for permissions to access the resources from other servers. It evaluates the request according to its filtering rules. Microsoft Windows Server 2008 does not have a built in proxy server settings.

Microsoft usually uses TMG or ISA which does the job regarding proxy related configuration. Make sure that you have Windows Server 200 x64 as TMG server cannot be installed on Windows Server 2008 x86 version. Another server application you may try to use is windows media services 2008. Instructions can be found here.

Hi Robertson,

Perhaps you should try these softwares (although these softwares are not for free):

1. Qbik WinGate. It provides security and manageable Internet access for your whole network. It also features the real time monitor usage. This will help you to improve your employees’ productivity by access control. You can check and download in their site.

2. CCProxy. Like the aforementioned software it can also monitors all accessed sites. It will also help you block all unnecessary websites. You can check this site and download the software here.

I hope this tip will help you.

Regards,

Martine Paul
