I always want to use Chrome in incognito mode. I do not want to open Chrome, and then turn into incognito mode. I want to keep it on, as soon as I launch Chrome. Help!

Hi there!

You can do it by following the steps below:

1. Right click on your Chrome shortcut

2. Select Properties

3. Click the Shortcut Tab

4. Go the target field,  then go to the end of the shortcut

5. type in-> — incognito (this should be after the ")

Now,  every time you use the edited shortcut, Chrome will launch in 'incognito" mode.

That did the trick! Thanks for your help!

By the way, what if I want to go back to normal browsing? Do I need to reedit the shortcut and remove the "incognito"?

You mean, permanently remove incognito mode?

Yes, just remove the "incognito" from the Chrome shortcut. However, if you are referring to just opening a new normal window, then pressing CTRL-N on your keyboard will do the trick.

This will open a normal window, while your main window remains in "incognito".

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need more help.

Another way to control this setting is by clicking on the "Wrench" icon at the upper right corner of your Google Chrome browser as seen below:

To open chrome in incognito mode all the time you have to add the -incognito switch to the shortcut Target, after this it will always open Chrome in Incognito mode.

Right click the Chrome shortcut icon and scroll down to select Properties. There will be target text box in the tab, written something like

For Win XP

"C: Documents And SettingsUSERNAMELocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe".

For Win 7

"C:Program FilesChromechrome.exe"

Add the [space]-incognito in it,

"C: Documents And SettingsUSERNAMELocal SettingsApplication DataGoogleChromeApplicationchrome.exe" –incognito

After this it will always open in incognito mode.

Or if you want to just change chrome to incognito mode temporarily just open chrome menu and change it to incognito from properties. Then if you open new tab it won’t be in incognito mode.
