How do I make the scroll bar and some other items larger without changing the resolution?  I just bought a larger monitor so the resolution has increased.

On Windows 7, you can do it by adjusting the screen resolution. Just click Start and then go to Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Adjust Screen Resolution.

Then you can see three options: Smaller (100%), Medium (125%) and Larger (150%).

In my case, Larger was just fine.

In Windows Vista, it is almost the same: right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose Personalize from the menu. After the window opens, select Adjust font-size from the column on the right. Go to Larger scale and then Apply. You will be prompted to restart the computer to apply the changes.

If you want to change the size of the scroll bar and other items on a software and you want to make it bigger, I guess it would depend on the application. This is because not all programs offer an option to adjust the visual size of its buttons and other items like the text size, scroll bar, buttons, and others.

One of the products that allow a user to adjust the visual size of the display is Microsoft Office 2007. But the option to change the size is limited only to the text that a user composes in the application like the texts of a document in Microsoft Office Word or Microsoft Office Excel. See image.

It doesn’t change the size of the scroll bar or make it bigger as well as the buttons. They are just on their default size. The Opera browser also allows you to adjust its zoom level. You can make the appearance of a website bigger by zooming in or make it smaller by zooming out.

But this doesn’t adjust the size of the scroll bar. It remains it its default size. Maybe, using a different theme in Microsoft Windows will change the size of the scroll bar and this option doesn’t change the current screen resolution used on your computer.
