I have to know is there a way to have control over the update feature in the latest windows 8.1 operating system. Main reason to look for this is that the my data bill is more this time. Iy is around 10 times more than what I used to get other month. My friend had connected his laptop to my internet when he had visited me last week and I strongly believe it has downloaded all the updates! Next time, first I would disable it and then allow internet access. Thanks for sharing. I have Assembled desktop with windows XP running and had never given this shock.

If you need to disable Windows Update on Windows 8.1, it’s easy. Disabling Windows Update on Windows 8 is pretty much the same with Windows 7. To change the Windows Update setting in Windows 8, go to the search box and type the following in the search field:

control panel

After this, click “Control Panel” in the results then click “Windows Update” on the next screen. In “Windows Update” screen, click “Change settings” on the left pane. On the next screen, select “Never check for updates (not recommended)” from the “Important updates” dropdown list then click “OK.”

If you don’t want to see the Windows Update message in the Action Center located in the notification area or system tray, in Control Panel, go to “Action Center” then click “Change Action Center settings” on the left pane. On the next screen, uncheck “Windows Update” under “Security messages” section then click “OK.”
