I know that when you block a person it does remove them from your people search history. My question is if you block a person, how long do you have to wait to unblock them so they will not show up in your search history? Is that even possible to unblock them and have them to never show up again?

Yes definitely when you block a person it does remove them from your people search history. You can easily unblock them anytime. For that under privacy setting you have to select blocking. There you can see a list of person you have blocked with a link to unblock them. What you have to do is to click on that link and you can easily unblock you friends.
