Hi, you’ll need analytic software to be installed on your website like Cpanel (https://cpanel.com/) you don’t need to add any software to your website to access those statistics.
You can also use Google Analytics (http://www.google.com/analytics/) as an option.
It will give you a lot of information about your website, and it is free. But if you want just simple and free you can try statcounter (http://statcounter.com).
In here, you can track what you’re looking for, and It is less confusing that google Analytics.

Trends for Websites
Google trends normally makes use of data from Google search, Google Analytics as well as third party research services.
And Google search being the biggest traffic source for a lot of websites, Trends will give you an close to accurate estimation of site traffic.
