Hi friends,

My friend is always chatting through Gmail and Yahoo with some people.

But those people are trying to access my system by sending photos on my computer unauthorizedly.

Please tell me some tips on how I can avoid this.

And if it's possible to change or hide my IP address.

Hi. Since you didn’t mention the type of connection you’re using.

Here are some steps you can try.

If you use a local internet:

Start>Settings > Control Panel > Network Connection. Then right click on LAN(“Local Area Connection”) and choose Properties.  On the General tab, under “This connection uses the following items”, you have to Double click on Internet Protocol ( TCP/IP) and you can change the IP address from there.

If you’re using modem for internet;

Just disconnect the internet maybe by unplugging the cable connection and as soon as it reconnects, it would automatically assign a different IP address.

But even you’re using a modem but you’re using Static IP Address, you need to contact your ISP to change your static IP address.

Hope this helps.

Most have these experiences with intruders.  Below are some advice's to keep away from them.

a. Use the newest version of Google Chat or Yahoo!Messenger or whatever.  If you use the older versions, this would invite those intruders.

b. Never download from any unauthorized site the Yahoo Plug-ins because vulnerability would be exposed after the Plug-ins installed and personal account details could be accessed.

c. Unwelcome guest may use Proxy even though your firewall is good. If you are using Yahoo and intend to change the proxy setting, go to Preference and click Proxy Servers.

d. Filter is an alternative option, and this could stop any specific spammers.

e. Change the IP address. Just disconnect the internet and then re-connect in few minutes. A different IP address will be assigned.

Hoping this could help.

OK then my suggestion will be to use a proxy server. It will hide your IP and hopefully you can avoid your problem.

There are several ways for different situations though which I can change your IP address.

1. If you are using a wired connection then go to the “Start” menu. From there go to the control panel. From there go to the “Network Connections”. Then click on the “Local Area Connection” (Windows 7) or right click on the “Local Area Connection” (Windows XP). Select properties and then double click on the “Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)” and a form will appear to change the IP address.

2. If you are using a wireless connection or connected to the internet via modem the IP address may be dynamic/static. If the address is dynamic then disconnect the internet connection and reconnect it and you will obtain a new IP address. Otherwise,if the address is static then you need to request you ISP to change your IP address.

3. Besides you can use different proxy servers (as stated earlier) which will not change your IP, but will hide your IP and present a different IP of any country to the server of the web site you want to browse. You can have the list of proxy servers by using Google search engine.

4. You can change the IP address using a command line tool NETSH. It will allow you to change your IP address with a configuration script. Here is an example which uses 198.168.1.6 as IP, 198.168.1.2 as DNS address, the net mask is 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1.

Script:

pushd interface ip

set address name="Local Area Connection" source=static addr=192.168.1.6 mask=255.255.255.0

set address name="Local Area Connection" gateway=192.168.1.1 gwmetric=0

set dns     name="Local Area Connection" source=static addr=192.168.1.2 register=PRIMARY

set wins    name="Local Area Connection" source=static addr=none

popd

These configuration files can now be invoked with NETSH like-

netsh -f home.net

If your internet subscription is a shared connection (not leased), try enabling DHCP to allow you to connect with varying IP address provided by your ISP or Internet Service Provider. When DHCP is activated, your ISP will provide your computer an IP address every time it boots. It can be the same IP address or it can be different depending on the availability.

To setup or enable DHCP, click “Start,” “Control Panel,” “Network and Sharing Center” then select “Change adapter settings” on the left pane. On the next screen, right-click your connection then select “Properties.” In “Local Area Connection Properties” dialog, select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” then click “Properties.” On the properties dialog, in “General” tab, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and then “Obtain DNS server address automatically.”

Click “OK” then restart the computer. This is on Windows XP. On Windows 7, the process is the same. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “ncpa.cpl” and then hit Enter. On the next screen, right-click your connection then select “Properties.” In the properties window, double-click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.

On the next screen, in “General” tab, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically.” Click “OK” then restart the computer.
