How do I go about changing the date format in my Outlook Express?

I prefer the DD/MM/YY so that 01/11/10is read as November 1, 2010 and not January 11, 2010, which is confusing to me.

I know it can be done from my old PC had my preferred format, only I do not know how or where to change it.

I have to change this setting due to my current time zone.

I shall be grateful for your help.

Hi Judd,

To change the format you desired just go to Control Panel program in Windows Vista or XP. Do take note that all programs on your computer that use date settings for your operating system will be affected by the changes that you make in Control Panel.

For Windows Vista

  • Just Click Start, click Control Panel, click Clock, Language, and Region, and then under Regional and Language Options, click Change the date, time, or number format.
  • On the Formats tab, click Customize this format.
  • On the Date tab, specify any changes that you want to make, under Short date and Long date.

For Windows XP

  • Just Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.
  • On the Regional Options tab, under Standards and formats, click Customize.
  • On the Date tab, specify any changes that you want to make, under Short date and Long date.

In case do not see the format that you want to Short date or Long date, just follow the guidelines specified in the following table. Also you must type an upper case M for the month setting. The lowercase misused for the minute setting.

Guidelines specified Short date or Long date

Hope it goes well.

Best Regards,

A. Wright

Hi Judd,

Outlook Express is using the date and format setup on the regional settings of our Computer set in Control Panel.

You can change it by following the steps below:

  • Start
  • Settings
  • Control Panel
  • Regional and Language Options
  • Choose the settings which best show the date that you like.
  • Click Ok

You may need to do a restart if it is still not working for you.

Another option you may opt to try is to create a new identity in Outlook Express.

To create a new identity, please do the steps below:

  • File
  • Identities
  • Add New Identity

The Time format (mm/dd/yy) that you're trying to replace is an American Time Settings.

In order for you to change it into Australian Time Setting which is dd/mm/yy or dd/mm/yyyy – You can: Either go to Control Panel – Clock, Language, and Region Settings – Region and Language – Change the date, time, or number format.

There are lots of time and date format you can choose from.

Can also change the long and short time and date settings on this section.

Outlook Express and most other programs that use date/time tend to run from the settings of your computer.

Or you can Reboot your PC, go into the BIOS, and check the date/time settings.

Hope this helps.

If you want to change the format of the date in Microsoft Outlook Express, you change it in the operating system and not with the application. To change the format of the date, click “Start,” “Control Panel,” “Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options,” and then “Regional and Language Options”. In “Regional and Language Options” screen, in “Regional Options” tab, click “Customize”.

Regional options customize

In “Customize Regional Options” screen, select “Date” tab. Here, set the format you want for the date. Since the one you want to change is the short date format, enter the new format in the “Short date format” field.

Set new short date format

When you are finished, click “OK” all throughout. The change should now be visible in Microsoft Outlook Express. If you don’t see any changes in the format of the date, restart your computer then check again.
