Here you need to take the control. You can find this configuration in two places in notification center.

Go to system preference. You may see a unified notification is preference tool (like a pen) for the control. This pen is used to shape out the area for users need. You can also turn on or off with the help of preferences. There are many other user friendly options in this area.

At last, an application notification pile will appear in the notification center/area. Now, you can control this by your own.
