How can I restore iPod?

Hi all,

I am at a loss here, and I am really not in favor of returning to the Apple store (bad memories)!

Some internet douche advised me to change my "hosts.isc" file, which I have now realized turns it into a calendar.

I'm not stupid. I can build gaming computers myself.

Can anyone help me as to how I can restore IPods?

Thanks and regards.

Hello Cunningham,

Restoring an iPod involves a few easy steps. They are as follows:

  • First, you will need to make sure that you have access to the internet for new versions of iTunes as well as iPod software may be needed.
  • Next you will open iTunes, and then connect the iPod to the computer using a USB cable.
  • Check the source panel in iTunes. You should see the iPod there.
  • Select the iPod. The summary tab will have information about that iPod.
  • You will have to click Restore.
  • Some Operating Systems like Mac may need you to provide an admin password and name.
  • Waiting for the restoration process to finish.
  • The next step will involve two things depending on your iPod model:

    • You will be either required to disconnect the iPod and then connect it to the iPod Power Adapter.
    • Or you will be required to leave it connected to the computer until the restoration process is over.
  • When the above process is done, you will need to select the syncing preferences you need, name the iPod and then complete the process.

Regards,

Carl

  1. Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPods Software.
  2. Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
  3. Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or Fire Wire cable that came with your iPod.
  4. After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
  5. Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
  6. Click Restore.
  7. If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
  8. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.

    • Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
    • Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
  9. During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
  10. After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

First make sure you have Internet connection. Back up and save any songs you have because they my get deleted.

Once you have internet connection if necessary download the latest version iTunes.

Next open the iTunes and connect your iPod with the Fire Wire cable or USB cable to the computer.

Then after a few moments you will see your iPad appear in the source panel in your iTunes.

After you see this select your iPad from the panel and then you will see information appear in the summery tab of the main iTunes window. Then just click restore after this a process bar will appear telling you what stage it is in.

After stage one is complete follow the instructions that it gives you.

  • Make sure you use the iPod software or Update for your iPod model and it is the latest Update. If you do not know your model, go to the Apple website and you will be able to figure it out easily.
  • Restore only if you absolutely need to.
  • Restoring is not the same as reformatting the Hard Drive.
  • For more information on restoration and troubleshooting with your iPod, consult the "iPod Help" option under the "Help" menu in iTunes.
  • Backup your iPod and other iOS devices frequently
