Hi,

I want to remove Domain Controller in Windows Server 2003 from a network.

But I'm stuck due to error. Here's what i did:

clicked Run> typed dcpromo /forceremoval

> Next (Welcome page)

> Next (Force Removal page)

> entered username and password and

clicked Next > Error! Anyone have you been through this problem?

How can i resolve it? I have attached the screenshot below:

"The operation failed because: A domain controller could not be contacted for the domain **** that contained an account for this computer a member of a workgroup then rejoin the domain before retrying the promotion.
The specified domain does not exist or could not be contacted."

Hi Dear, I am not understand that why you need to use force removal command. Please use only dcpromo command from RUN.

When you get remove active directory page, you will see (This server is the last domain controller.). Please select this check box and continue as per next instruction step by step.

Notes before remove domain

  • Another thing, please disconnect all workstation from network.
  • To uninstall an Active Directory domain, first you must move down if any other domain controllers connected with the domain.
  • If there is any share folder or Drive share then please disable those share before start remove domain.
  • Hope now you can remove your domain easily. If this post helps you then please reply here with thanks
