Hello fellows,

How can I recover locked ods file? I never encountered a locked ods file before but still I want to discover the way to unlock and be able to see those files. I tried many ways but unfortunately I cannot find the right answer. Can you help me resolve this issue?

Regards,

Lindsay Wendy.

There are few options you can try:

Option 1: Download and install the latest version of OpenOffice.org (as few of the old bugs might have been fixed in the new releases) Now try to open the file. If you already have the latest version, ignore this option.

Opton 2: Open a blank ODS file. Go to Insert menu→Sheet and insert your ODS file.

Option 3: If the option "Always create backups" is on in the OpenOffice settings, you can look for the backup file at the location: C:Documents and Settings<username>Application DataOpenOffice.orguserbackup. Your file might be stored with <your filename>.BAK

Option 4: Change the file extension to .ZIP. Open the zip file with WinZip. Now delete the "styles.xml" file and rename the zip file back to the ODS extension, and try to open the file as normal.

If none of these options work, in the option 4 zipped file look for the file "content.xml". Open this file with any text editor, and you'll see that the actual text of your file should be there. You can copy this data to a new ODS file. That way, you can save some of your rework effort.
