Hi Isabella,

I will help you to open the dbx file. The dbx file is a filetype exclusively used by Microsoft Outlook Express program. It is a folder that contains all the emails of a mailbox in the Document and Settings folder in your computer. You can copy the folder to any other location. The name of the folders are Inbox.dbx, Folders.dbx, Drafts.dbx etc

To import it to Outlook Express,

Go to File, then import and messages.

Select import mail from an OE6 directory and it will be added to your mailbox.

Isabella,

To view your .dbx files you will need to do just a couple of things.  First of all go into your current email program that you are using and right click on your "Inbox".  Once you have done this go to "Properties" and look to see where this folder is stored.  Now that you know where this location is copy your .dbx files into this folder, make sure you have given these .dbx files unique names so you aren't copying over existing files.  Lastly,  restart your Outlook Express and these .dbx files you just moved will show up.

One error that is associated with DBX file is error code “0x800C012E” which you may encounter when using Outlook Express. The error means the DBX file (*.dbx) is read-only. Another possible reason is that you have run out of space. To fix the problem, you need to check the attributes of the DBX file and change it.

Click “Start” then in the search box type the following:

*.dbx

In the search results, right-click the first DBX file then select “Properties.” In the “Properties” dialog, in “Attributes” section at the bottom, uncheck “Read-only” if it is checked then click “OK.” Repeat this on the succeeding DBX files. On the other hand, if no DBX file was found, try improving search on Windows.

Click “Start” then in the search box type without quotes “folder options” and then select “Folder Options” in the results. In “Folder Options” dialog, go to “Search” tab then under “What to search” section, select “Always search file names and contents” and then click “OK.” Next, click “Start,” “Control Panel” then “Indexing Options.” In “Indexing Options” dialog, click “Advanced” at the bottom.

In “Advanced Options” dialog, go to “File Types” tab then scroll down the list and see if the DBX extension is checked (dbx). In case the extension name is not listed, in “Add new extension to list,” type without quotes “dbx” then click “Add” to add the extension name to the list.

Now, see if the DBX extension name appears on the list and make sure it is checked. In “How should this file be indexed,” select “Index Properties and File Contents” then click “OK.” Try searching again and it should locate the DBX file.
