Hello, Jinan!

You may receive the following Windows Installer error message when you install a Setup program that is based on Windows Installer Setup technology:

This occurs when you try to install the program on which version 2 of the Windows Installer with the Windows Installer DLL file is installed or you install the program from an NTFS file system-formatted volume where the user has been denied the List Folder/Read Data permissions to the installation folder.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows XP which is the Service Pack 3.

There is also a supported Hotfix that is available from Microsoft that is intended to correct only this problem. This Hotfix is only available for selected languages. So when you try to download the Hotfix and you did not see your language, it means that the Hotfix is not available for that specific language.

The English-language version of this fix should have the following file attributes:

Date                         Version                 Size                                   File name
———————————————————————————————–
11-Feb-2002        2.0.2600.28         1,994,240 bytes Msi.dll

I hope this answers your question.

It is because your installing an operating system that is a previous version of Microsoft Operating System.

It seems that you are currently using Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system.

Solution 1:

I suggest that you install a Virtual Machine Software or VMware for short to install a Windows XP operating system on your computer without removing your current operating system. It does come with a price though, it will make your computer slow because it will share resources with your current system.

Solution 2:

Simply install a fresh copy of the operating system while also removing the latest operating system that you use. But make sure to create a backup of your most important files.
