How can I get the IP address of my print server (WPSM54G)

Everybody,

I have a small wireless network at home and I need to setup my print server. I don't know where to get the IP address of my print server and I purchased my Linksys WPSM54G from a garage sale and it doesn't have the setup disk.

Below is my network setup.

Note: All of my computers are going online and I need to setup LPR on all of my computers since I will just be printing (not scanning) and I need to setup static IP on my print server.

Wired: Windows XP

Wireless: Lenovo T61 laptop (Vista)

Router: Cisco Valet M10

Printer:HP Photosmart 3210

The printer is currently wired to the router.

I tried using Arp – just to isolate the IP address of the printer server. I turned off my desktop so it only shows my laptop's IP address. Below is the screen shot

Many Thanks,

Aris

Hi,

You need to configure the port at your Cisco Router where the printer is attached.

For example your printer might be attached to Fe0/0 port. Then assign a static IP address with appropriate subnet mask to the port as you desired in the question.

Remember you should start your port by "noshut" command after assigning a static IP.

Reddings

Hi there user:

First, go to the Router Set-up Screen Page and look for devices with IP Address connected to it. If you can’t find it, reset your router and then do the first step to get the IP Address.

Open your Internet Explorer. Type the IP Address on the Search Bar. Enter. Don’t type anything on the Username, tab to your Password, and then type your Print Server Password (if you didn’t change the password, the default password is admin). Click Ok. Do the same procedure to the other unit.

Thanks for posting.

Best regards,

Hi Aristotlepielago,

Your main problem is how to connect your printer to your local network. As what you have stated, your are using Windows XP for your PC and Vista for your laptop. I would like to advised that your printer be connected to a server PC and create a Workgroup. Let all the computers connected join the Workgroup and share the printer to the network. In this instance, you will no longer need the printer's IP.
