You need to disable the Automatic Restart option in your Windows XP. To do this:

1. Click Start and then Control Panel.

2. Open System under Control Panel.

3. Click the Advanced tab in the system Properties window.

4. Click the Settings on the startup and Recovery.

5. Locate and untick the check box next to Automatically Restart. And then click OK.

6. Click OK again to the System Properties window.

And also, you need to double-check if this is just an issue of Automatic Restart or you are really having some hardware problems.
