Hello,

Dude you just don’t have to worry. Just note your model of the laptop and confirm its hard disk type weather it is SATA or of some other company. Also check if the RAM is DDR1/DDR2 or DDR3.

  • Just note these things and go to a Hardware shop or prefer going to an Apple store where you will get all original stuff. Just buy it from there and they will do the fitting for you.
  • You can choose your Graphics card as per your budget and use. NVIDIA and G-Force are the best amongst all Graphic card companies.

Thanks.

Hi,

I see that you want to speed up your laptop according to the demands of your job as a graphic designer.

  1. As you mentioned your laptop is quite old. You will still be able to upgrade some hardware but not likely the video card or by chances you will be to find a faster video card with a higher cost. But not to worry about this because maybe your graphics memory is shared by your RAM and this case, you will need to increase your RAM memory by adding one that has higher memory.
  2. Replacing your laptop hard drive, you can buy at your nearest local store and make sure you get the right HDD because there is SATA and IDE. Refer to the images below:
SATA vs PATA comparision

Or if you don't have any experience opening or servicing laptops, you can have the tech guys check your laptop's hard drive to be sure and you'll just have to buy higher capacity HDD from them.

Take care!
