The new PS4 features a suspend mode option but I am not able to bring my system to that state. Please guide me how to do so and also let me know if the system is able to download content while in that state?

Hello,
You can use your suspend mode to eliminate the loadtime on your savegame. You can instantly start off from where you left the last time in your game without any delay. But the bad news is the suspend mode wasn't integrated in the PS4 during the launch. But it will be enabled during a system updat in 2014. You can read the complete FAQ of the suspend mode here.
