Hello techyv,

How to access corrupted pen drive and restore the data? I am currently working in a real estate company handling important data from the company. The manager handed me a pen drive device so that I can use it whenever I have to transfer data from one computer to another, unfortunately the pen drive was corrupted when I use it to our old computers. How can I get rid of those viruses?

Expecting some help from you guys. Thank you.

Hi There,

There’s a recovery command in  Windows XP and called Checkdisk. Checkdisk is a command line tool that checks volume of drive for possible problems. Chkdsk can repair problems related to bad sectors and directory errors. To access Checkdisk do these steps.

  1. Plug-in your pen drive. Locate its directory letter ( I: ,E:, F:, etc).
  2. Open the command prompt by doing the following:

    • For Windows XP: Press start > Run > Type CMD
    • For Windows 7: Press start > Type CMD
  3. Type in “Chkdsk e: /r” without quotes and wherein e is the directory letter of your pen drive.
  4. Chkdsk will run through the process and check for errors. If you encounter a warning, just answer yes or type in the   letter “Y”.
  5. It will ask you if you want to save lost chains into files when it is almost finish, just answer yes or type in the letter “Y”.
  6. Check if you can access your pen drive now.

Another solution requires using software and the procedure is not simple. Try “Zero Assumption Recovery”. And here is the tutorial.

Hope this will help you.
